Special Needs Families

I've shared a lot here on LMP, but one thing i haven't shared is my family's adventures with our daughter Alice. Alice is 4 years old and has special needs. She has ADHD and Sensory Processing Disorder. What does that mean exactly? It means that her brain is wired differently than most people's brains. She struggles with attention span, focus, and body control, and also with sensory input and sensory regulation inside and outside her body. She often wears headphones because the world is loud and hurts her ears. She has a chew necklace she is always chewing on, and she can often be found running, jumping and crashing into things to get the input her body needs. She has meltdowns when her body gets overwhelmed from all the sensory input in the world. She's in a special education classroom and she does OT/PT every week as well. She can't sit still for the life of her and when she does, there's some part of her body still moving (usually her mouth! LOL). She's a genuinely happy kid, despite her challenges, and honest to god, she's the best thing I've ever done in my life.

So why am I telling you all this? (Other than to brag on how adorable my kid is!) Because as a special needs mom, I know how hard it is to find people patient enough, caring enough, understanding enough to work with kids like Alice. I know how important it is to find people to be on your team. I know how much it hurts when someone just doesn't get it. So, at the suggestion of and encouragement from other special needs parents, I'm combining my experience and my talent and specializing in working with families with special needs. If you have a special needs family member, and you need photos, come see me. I am prepared to accommodate all abilities. I'm not scared of meltdowns, or stimming, or fidgeting, or lack of eye contact. I promise to be understanding, patient, and accommodating every step of the way. I can even help make a social story for the session so your family member is as comfortable and prepared as possible for the session. Come see me, join the LMP family, and let me capture some memories for your family.
